I got season one today

There are 4 dvd's and the quality is great but they are not in order as per orig. air date.

Yes, I'd also gotten season 1 today. The quality is excellent...crystal clear. At least one of the episodes that I watched had the original commercials, which were tied in with the beginning and end credits! I was a bit, a slight bit, disappointed that the episodes weren't in the order in which they were originally shown. Disc one started with, "What Happened to Thursday?", definitely one of the very funniest episodes...Sylvia and Leo Schnauser at their very best. However, disc #4 contains two episodes: one has Al Lewis playing a different role, the other has Charlotte Rae before she became Sylvia. It's a little disconcerting, that's all...once Al Lewis and Charlotte Rae became Mr. and Mrs. Schnauser, on disc they should have stood that way. The set would have been better if the episodes were on the disc in the order in which they originally aired. Still, I've been waiting a long time for this great show to appear on dvd and am just about over the moon that it's finally appeared. The set is great and, of course, so are all the episodes. AND, the bonus interview with Charlotte Rae and Hank Garrett is extraordinary: entertaining, informative and just wonderful to see. I'm now anticipating the release of the second season and'll definitely get my order in to Amazon, once it's announced!

I'm a bit more than half way through the episodes, going crazy putting the discs in and out to watch them in order. That is the best way to watch them. There is development un the series, beyond the casting of Al Lewis (in two non-Schnauzer roles) and Charlotte Rae.

There was one episode, the one where Toody & Muldoon got different partners, in whuch Hank Garrett is credited under antother name & someone else is called Nicholson. This is after Garrett had been playing Nicholson since the first episode.

Eventually, they stop showing a second screen of actor credits just show one. so it's the luck of the draw to get credited. Unless you're Gerald Hiken, who always does!

And there's a lot of my favorite episodes on Season 2.

Apparently the company putting the DVDs out thought it would be better to put the episode out in order of popularity instead of original broadcast order or even production order.

Here's an article about it on tvshowsondvd.com:

I was all set to buy season one last Wednesday. But Best Buy, Fry's Electronics, one Target store, and three Wal-Marts didn't have season one for sale. ----- ----- I'll try again tonight when I do my weekly DVD shopping. ----- ----- Rusty

Well, I watched them all in chronological order, but looking at the arrangement, they did group a lot of the best episodes on Disk 1. They also put "Christmas at the 53rd", probably the least funny (but still better than a lot that's on today) as the last.

I don't think this was a good strategy. The casual viewer won't be ending on a high note (pun intended as "Christmas" is a musical episode). It would have been better to "put them in, not the bank, but chronological order.

Agreed. As great as this show is, few people really know if it. The people buying this are the diehards. There was no benefit in changing the order.

Oh well, I'm just glad season one has finally arrived. I hope to start watching this weekend.

Any word on season two?

Best Buy finally had the first season of "Car 54 Where are You?" last night. I'm already watching disc three. ----- I'm ready to buy season two. I hope we don't have to wait too long. ----- ----- Rusty

I only caught about half of these episodes on TV Land Canada before they were pulled off the channel (when everything B&W seemed to disappear), so many will be new to me. However, I saw enough of them on TVLC to know this show was something special! I can't wait to watch them all. Hopefully, they will put out season two!

I'm also disappointed that they messed with the order. I don't know who they thought they were satisfying by arranging the shows this way. Oh well, it's a minor point. At least they're OUT!

I was pretty worried when I put disc one in to watch Who's For Swordfish? The disc wouldn't play that episode, and then when it finally did, the disc skipped around all over the place. Then, I took the disc out, rubbed it carefully with my thumb (I have a magic thumb, when it comes to DVDs), put it back in...and it's running fine now. Whew!

I've seen this first episode before. I love that scene with Conroy! HIGH-larious! I can't wait until I've seen them all!

If you notice, for anyone familiar with the Bronx, some scenes were filmed on or around the Cross-Bronx Expwy near 3rd ave and E 177 st which was a couple of blocks near the Biograph where the indoor scenes were filmed.
