Talking

Okay, now I grew up with the Chipmunks too, BUT, I'm a child of the 80s, so the Chipmunks I grew up with were the slightly updated version (with their female counterparts, the Chipettes); it wasn't until recently I've seen some clips from the original Alvin Show on YouTube... and I just got to ask... is it just me, or does it seem like they all talk a little awkward?

I don't mean the squeakiness or anything, I mean all of the main characters (Dave and the Chipmunks)... it sound like they talk kind of slow and pause slightly after each word that's said. Am I imagining this?

My friend once said "I hate signatures, but I love irony."

I noticed this about the Alvin Show too. Maybe the Chipmunk voice actors deliberately talked *slower* than normal so that when the voices were sped up, it would be more understandable. That's my guess.

I also grew up with the update version of the Chipmunks, but I do remember watching The Alvin Show and Clyde Crashcup re-runs on NBC. Somewhere in the early 80s.

Now, as to the voices, Ross Bagdasarian, who created the Chipmunks voiced all three and also David Seville. I think it was just the way he recorded the voices. He would talk slow when recording then he would speed up the recording and get that squeaky effect. I think manipulating that caused some pauses and some weird audio with each character. It was difficult to edit shows back then especially with audio.
