This movie is one of my favorites. I love the silliness of it, and how colorful and campy the characters are. Can anyone recommend similar movies? They don't necessarily have to be about kids; looking more for stories of a similar essence -- sort of wholesome but a bit naughty. Some of my favorite films that somewhat align with Zazie are:

Buster Keaton's College (1927)
It Happened One Night (1934)
The Major and the Minor (1942)
Batman TV series (1960's)
Monty Python's Flying Circus & movies

A film from the Czech New Wave called Daisies seems to have been highly influenced by Zazie dans le Metro. Of course is what you are looking for is anarchy-meet-comedy you can't go wrong with DUCK SOUP, HELLZAPOPIN' or more of Jerry Lewis' films, especially the later ones. Films like this are the Halloween candy of the cinema. You indulge until you want to explode.

Slightly different but equally french are the Jaques Tati comedies, best seen in chronological order. My personal favorites are Mr. Hulot's Holiday and Mon Oncle.

RIchard Lester's The Knack and How to Get It and of course HARD DAYS NIGHT are filled with visual gags.
