The opening scenes at the school in the big snowstorm.

With a snow storm like that there would be no school that day! Big, too obvious, plot hole!

reply

If the students live on campus, they could just walk to class, so there would be
no transportation issues and the school would remain open.

I'm not crying, you fool, I'm laughing!

I don't believe a school would stay open with a storm like that. It looked like a blizzard! Besides the teachers and other faculty needed to run the school live elsewhere - off campus.

Just got off the phone with an old college pal who claims the wintery school scene was actually shot at Michigan State. It wasn't. It was filmed on a standing "college" set on the MGM back lot. There's a book about the legendary MGM back lot called"MGM Hollywood Greatest Backlot" by Steven Bingen. You can see it in many films including "Good News", "Tea and Sympathy", "Merry Andrew" and even the WB film "Auntie Mame" where they attend Patrick's graduation from school.

He probably said that because the book this was based on was written by a Michigan State prof. He based it on his observances of coeds at Spring Break.

And, it's Michigan. :)

reply

You can tell it was a fake snowstorm because you could not see their breath. The actors did not look chilly either.

reply

Maybe not in the States, but here in Canada, we still had to go in such weather. If we didn't, we'd be going to school all summer.

Why would you try to call out a plot hole when you clearly don't live in the north? Northern schools and universities virtually never close for snow.

Source: 4 years in Buffalo, a million inches of snow, 0 snow days.

The narrator said the college is 1200 miles north of Fort Lauderdale which would put them in Muncie, Indiana because Muncie is exactly 1200 miles north of Ft Lauderdale and is also a college town, home of Ball State. Muncie gets occasional snowstorms but a snow storm as severe as the one at the beginning of the movie happens maybe once or twice every 25 years or so in Muncie.
