Scene at the Diner: Hot water

One of my favorite scenes was when Angie drags Merritt into the diner and they order 2 cups of hot water. The look on the countermans' face (Jack Kruschen) was a riot. They smuggle crackers and sugar then ask for the check. I understand that this really was done at the time by hungry teens who had no cash.

I love that scene as well.. 

The expressions on the girls' faces are just priceless, along with their comments! 

Smiling with a mouthful of crackers....just cracks me up.

...and the final comment by the staff member: "Next time, could you please take your business to my competitor?" 

Adding Ketchup to Hot Water gives you a version of Tomato Soup.
Thought that was initially what the water was wanted for.
Seriously.

Had Heard of, but never saw this until an episode of Happy Days!

reply

Do you mean that you hadn't seen this film until you heard about it in an episode of Happy Days?

reply

No, I meant the tomato soup from ketchup and Hot water was what I saw on Happy Days.

reply

Oh, I see!

I wish that I could have seen more of the early Happy Days episodes, but when I was growing up, it was shown on channels which we didn't have at home. I really liked the episodes which I did see, like the one where Joanie has a brief crush on Potsie after he sings "Put Your Head on my Shoulders" to her. 
