Great opening scene

But it all sort of becomes boring after a while. As one who loves most of Clouzot's other films, and got quickly into this one, it ultimately disappointed.

I'm afraid I have to agree.. It had me hooked from the start.. and for te first hour..but the last 45 mins dragged quite a bit.
Shame, it held so much promise.

Well...

I saw it tonight for the humpteenth time, and in the end I felt exactly the same than the first time: marvelled...

I can't see any flaw in it. It's a complete oeuvre d'art. There is all in it. It's the highest achievement of a master in cinema.

Boring: you are so right. I had a hard time believing this was really a Clouzot film. He seems to passively accept the Bardot image, without challenging it. The good sister-bad sister pairing is so lame, and so perfunctorily staged that I wonder why he bothered with it. Sami Frey's character is an unbearable prig--he's supposed to be an aspiring conductor?

Older directors really shouldn't take up projects that involve young people and their mores, as Marcel Carne found when he made Les tricheurs.
