I think you are better off with an all-region (code free) DVD player able to output to PAL to view the Criterion disc. I am not sure if the disc is coded Region 0 (code free) NTSC or Region 1 NTSC.

reply

The Criterion DVD is encoded for Regions 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 (usually called 'Region 0'). It is in NTSC format so it might not play correctly on an analogue PAL television. It plays fine in an all-digital setup.

reply

NTSC will play absolutely fine on UK tellys, it's mainly PAL that people have problems with in non PAL regions, especially televisions in the US.

reply

NTSC does not play "fine" on UK TVs, at least not one ones other than new and digital. It plays in black-and-white with a sort of creamy look. I know this from trying to play Region 2 NTSC DVDs from the Far East. Eventually I got fed up with this and went digital.

Just so you know. Lovely film, BTW - I like all the character bit players.

reply

I guess you already found out the copy 's out in UK on "in2film", it's the criterion print for about 4 pounds at amazon.
If not, enjoy!
