George takes a long time travel trip unprepared

I truly, really, really love THE TIME MACHINE (1960), despite some plots flaws. And who could pass up the beautiful, 18-year old Yvette Mimeux? Her beauty cannot be described in mere words and just takes your breath away.

Yet everytime I watch this movie, I always cringe at inventor George being so unprepared for what was an impulsive, spur-of-the-moment time travel experiment, undocumented and so unprepared as to be not only unprofessional but extremely dangerous. George should have been prepared. He should have dressed in rugged, outdoor or safari clothing, equipped for hot and cold climes. He should have at least minimally equipped himself with basic survival tools. I keep visualizing his lack of a firearm or firearms and even knives. At least he possessed matches, although barely enough as it turned out. George needed a flashlight (torch) although the battery-type was not available in 1899. He should have carried a revolver with spare ammunition. A handy short rifle or carbine would have been useful, even a short-barrelled double-barreled shotgun. THE TIME MACHINE always serves a valuable lesson to its viewers: Be prepared where ever you go!

A good advice! But I actually (I might be wrong!) believe he did not plan to go very far. He wanted to try it out for a while but as he was traveling he got hypnoticed by the sensations and "went with the flow"!

I agree he really didn't plan to go very far or for very long. Perhaps 50-100 years and just for a few hours, then come back.

But he was trapped by the rushing lava flow, first very hot, then solidifying into a very cold encasement, so, acting on impulse, he raced into the future, speeding up the machine to get to a point where erosion wore away the rock.

Isnt it weird that so few movies is about timetravel? Sure we have Timemachine, Beyond the Timebarrier and then Back into the future films..do you know any other?

Don't forget "Time After Time" with Malcolm McDowell and Mary Steenburgen...and a very nasty David Warner!!

(One of the best!!.... In my opinion...)

I love Malcolm McDowell in this film and, yes, David Warner is nasty--so much so that I tend to avoid most of the second half of the film now.

I was surprised he didn't take any food or water with him...

Unlike the DeLorean Time Machine, this one was not mobile.

If he ended up in the future, and the land where his home was, became a desert, he would need to walk quite a distance to find water.

Bringing a canteen with him would have been a good idea. Plus you might get thirsty traveling through time... Today, a few bottles of water would be smart.

At least built the machine with a cup holder!

George really was unprepared.
