The Hellene

What was the significance of this scene?

Who was that woman, what was she doing there? Why was she so angry? Did it have a meaning of some sort that I missed? I loved the costume and the character however weird it was.

She's the goddess Athena. It was mentioned earlier in the film that Cocteau would be seeing her, and it would be wise to offer her the flower because goddesses are women, after all.

I'm also under the impression that he said that she smelled; he said something about Mary and Martha having to hold their breaths around Lazarus, and she got offended and killed him. At least that's how I read it; I'm sure a more intelligent interpretation exists somewhere.

He didn't say she smelled. He said HE himself smelled, since just like Lazarus he had been raised from the dead. He even apologized to Athena for that.
