Robinson Family killed alot of pirates

Kind of surprised that there was this much violence back then, especially for a Disney movie. That Robinson family must have killed around 50 pirates and wounded about 300 of them.

reply

True but it was self defense. If they hadn't have killed and wounded the pirates the pirates would certainly have killed all of them. It would be unrealistic for the pirates to just sail away without many of them being killed and wounded. Pirates in those days(and even today) are a group of people that are so ruthless that killing them sort-of is doing the world a favor. Disney movies have never shied away from killing the villain(or villains) at the end of the movie.

reply

"most certainly"? The head pirate wanted to reclaim his hostage. He said so.
He also said hand her over and he'll leave them alone.
Perhaps that's the sort of attitude that gets so many black men killed by police in America. Everyone looks like a deadly threat in a world obsessed with fear.

So I guess you would have been perfectly fine with that! You really think the Robinson family should have just handed Roberta over to the pirates and gone on with their lives like nothing happened? I guess less people would have been killed but more innocents would have been killed because Roberta would be killed and the pirates are anything but innocent and deserved to die.

First off there are actually not that many black people killed by cops. There are actually more white people killed by cops than black if you are interested in the facts. And the reason some black people are killed by cops is because their parents in low-income black communities taught them that the cops are the bad guys. Thus, when they have a run-in with the cops they resist arrest and usually threaten the cops in some way. This leads them to be justifiably killed because they present a threat to the cop's life. It's a real tragedy but most of the time the cops acted exactly how they are supposed to. Black families(and all families) should teach there kids that the cops are the good guys and should be respected and thanked for the service they provide our communities. The only people that should have fear of cops are those that are breaking the law.

if you are interested in the facts.

but I'm hardly likely to get them from you am I? where's your peer reviewed link?
And it's hardly my point how many whites get killed, it's all xxxx people look like a threat so shoot them all.

should teach there kids that the cops are the good guys

but for that to be valid they would have to be 100% the good guys and these instances of documented execution really aren't helping that image are they?

The only people that should have fear of cops are those that are breaking the law.

or people with their hands up obeying the law yet are about to get shot anyway. I like your idea in theory, but it's not working out in practice. kill 100 pirates.

"where's your peer reviewed link?"

It's amusing and amazing that some people don't know the difference between an informal forum and an academic dissertation.

reply

And amazing that a teenage boy, a teenage girl, and even mom could repeatedly overcome mature, muscular, bad-ass pirates in one-on-one combat! Maybe the pirates were really, really drunk.

reply

It’s a long time since I saw the film but did any of the pirates actually die? I seem to remember a lot of slapstick, a few traps, a tiger which didn’t actually kill anybody and then the pirates admitting defeat and fleeing. I don’t recall any actual death in the movie.

reply

Yes, the fight was slapstick, although a number of pirates get shot, get thrown down a high cliff, fall into the pit with the tiger... you have to assume there would be casualties. Of course, it's a clear case of self-defense, since they were being attacked by a gang of bloodthirsty murderers.

reply

I only specifically remember the tiger pit - the pirates who fell in managed to scramble out and raced screaming for the ship, as I recall it. I’ll have to watch the film again sometime soon to see whether any of the pirates actually die.

reply

Well, you don't get to see a death certificate, but still... several get shot, several are thrown down the cliffs and remain still... Now that i remember it, when the ship that came to rescue them arrived, they destroyed the pirates ships and boats with their cannons.

reply

Aha— yes, I’m sure you are right. J was going off very old memory! Now I look forward to watching this old favourite again soon.

reply

Their first live action movie had Bobby Driscoll shoot a man to death.

reply

Yes, as I remember Treasure Island was a lot darker and more violent than SFR.

reply

SO MANY FUCKING PIRATES!....THE FINALE HAD ME SO TENSE...LOOKED UNWINNABLE.

reply

Self defense and it's all bloodless.
