A Gem

A gem of a picture, and it being a bit rough on the edges in production and editing make it raw and chilling. Laughton and Heflin shine, and the backup is an example of good casting. I gave it 10*
my favorites are Harlow and Garbo. I guess I'm just an old fashion guy

Laughton was horrid to watch in the role. He got the part after they failed to secure James Mason and Laurence Olivier (see trivia). IMHO he cost the film about a .5 on the rating scale. Thus said your gem talk seems kinda odd ... especially when you admit the film was "a bit rough on the edges in production and editing."

6/10
