Let's get this to DVD.

I think it's time this movie comes out on Region 1 DVD. I haven't even seen this movie and I want to see it on DVD. I wonder why it takes so long to bring older movies out, especially classics.

reply

yeah i want to see the cinematography in it.

reply

Yeah, I do to.

What's holding up the R1 DVD release?

The potential sales market for a 1960 black-and-white film is far less than that of a dumb tv comedy that ran for one season last year, and the dumb tv comedy is dvd-ready, no extra costs involved for digital transfer and possible fixing-up.

I'd love to see SONS AND LOVERS on DVD as well, but the rights apparently still reside with 20th Century-Fox, and they seem to have abandoned their Studio Classics and Cinema Classics lines, either of which would have been ideal for this film. Maybe Criterion will deem it worthy of one of their editions, in which case we're talking about a $39.95 SRP, unless they were to issue it under their more popular-priced "Eclipse" label that features more art-house style films with few or no special features.

It's been released on video in Australia by Umbrella Entertainment. I just picked up a copy cheap in Hong Kong (where just about everyone owns a region-free DVD player, otherwise we'd hardly get to see any English language movies beyond the latest box office hits).
