Liked it until the end

This movie had me interested until the ending. It was one of those cliché movie endings where the real culprit breaks down on the witness stand and confesses everything. I'm so tired of seeing that in movies. It's old, overused, and unrealistic. I was hoping for such a better ending.

I can't seem to find this film anywhere, and I've read so much about it. So how does it end? Is Rutledge guilty or not guilty???

I'll put it behind the black stripe, don't read it if you don't want details: No, the father of a kid who loved the young girl actually raped and strangled her, Sgt. Rutledge was innocent of the charges

Yeah, it was made 55 years ago but as someone who has watched hundreds of movies from the 1920's to 1960, it was a total cliche by the time this came out. I literally rolled my eye when I watched the end a few minutes ago.
