Realism

As I watch a rape victim ask her attacker, "do you like me?" my feminist brain goes koblooey, but that is because I am seeing this in perfect 20/20 hindsight vision from 2013 in the comfort of safety. But that reaction is actually perfectly normal, as I know not only from personal experience, but from friends who have married their rapists. Also, I think the thrill of ripping off old guys by pretending to tease them sounds like a fun way to get back at them at first, and then after a few nice men you wouldn't want to do it any more. I believed the heroine's story, hoping that the boyfriend loved her but not really believing he did.

No I'm a compulsive liar. Of course I'm serious. I wouldn't lie to be sensational. A friend from high school was traveling in the near east countries and was raped by a stranger. She married him soon afterwards. I've lost contact with her now. But she is just one that comes to my mind at the moment. There are other women I know who have done this.

Sorry its just that such a concept is just so foreign to me. I can't even imagine why anyone would "want" to marry a rapist. And the fact that it is apparently more than just one woman, it just doesn't register with me.
