Had Palfrey taken the advice of his Clerk of Works, he would never have ended up in such a pickle.

I'm intrigued about The Hampshire Buttery. Is the reason Palfrey doesn't want to take April there because it's a stuffy and old-fashioned place?

I think it's because he's wanting to impress April. Open to interpretation.
