There is a professionally translated and subtitled version of this film available on DVD, published by Belle & Blade War Video, which is one of the largest publishers of war movies in the nation. Their web site unfortunately does not list the names of actors, directors, etc., so you have to know the title of the movie you are searching for, and for foreign films they tend to use the English title, but they have some very rare titles, such as this one, that you cannot find anywhere else, or at least not with English subtitles anyway.

I have a copy and can confirm that the DVD is in the original German language with excellent English subtitles. Using VLC Media Player to play it on my computer, when I try to play the DVD, it just gives me a gray screen, but when I click the Menu button in the software it starts playing the movie somewhere in the middle, so I just rewind it and it plays perfectly after that. Thought I'd mention this in case someone runs across the same issue, though I'm sure it would play fine in a regular DVD player, it's just that I use my computer to play movies.
