Is this the best Italian neorealist film?

It is better than 'The Bicycle Thief' and 'Rome, Open City' combined. This is my favorite Italian neorealist film, along with La Strada, but La Strada is maybe not a pure neorealist film.

So, what is your favorite Italian neorealist film?

If Italian Neorealist movement encompasses the period between 1943-51, then my favorite film is Ossessione.

but this sure is brilliant

My favorite is definitely The Bicycle Thief.

Rocco is a decent movie, but I found it to be an exercise in melodrama. Especially at the end.

I like La ciociara, which is one you didn't mention.

However, don't ask me to name any more that I've watched, because I couldn't.

This one is pretty good too.

The cast is professional, the story and music are infused with melodrama, and the photography is very sensual. It lacks the gritty immediacy of neo-realism. Further, it's much too late for that period.

No, because it's technically part of the Modernist Italian film movement. However, De Sica is probably the master of Italian Neorealism.

Don't say it's just a movie. If I thought it was just a movie, I wouldn't have an imdb account.
