The First Talented Mr Ripley Movie (slight spoilers)

I just watched Purple Noon, and was floored by how good it was!!! I really enjoyed the different take on things as well, especially the ending, i never saw it coming!!!
I remember reading parts of the book, but not all of it; i read the boat scene where he kills Dickie, and Purple Noon was very close to how that went down, really illustrating the desperation of falling into the water, and Tom's amateur attempt trying to handle the boat, almost tipping it. I love 60s movies, and the graininess contributed to the period piece feeling more as well. It just felt old. I also appreciated the Purple Noon script a bit more; it seemed more realistic in many ways. For example, how Tom captured Marge for himself (rather than turning gay), and the ending was better than the loose ends in the 90s film. I really want to read the entire book now, and then watch it again. Seeing how much the 90s film borrowed from it really puts things in perspective; Purple Noon is right up there!!!
