Did You Enjoy This A LOT More Than You Thought You Would?

I thought the husband-wife repartee was sophisticated and marvelous. The insights about theater critics, on target. The story stays right on track and never falls into slapstick, old jokes or 'easy' tricks. Doris and David were a surprisingly natural couple. The veteran 'second tier' actors greatly enriched the movie: Spring Byington could easily be Doris Day's mother. Janis Paige never looked more lovely. Even venerable Patsy Kelly as the maid and Richard Haydn (of Sound of Music fame) were a treat.
