Did you find this film funny?

I dont know some lines really cracked me up
like:
"veronica argued that gaugin is a greater painter than van gogh which is wrong of course"

Some of the really deep philosopical thoughts didnt seem to me like something that a guy in this situation would think about.
Or that a soldier has that kind of an intellectual background.

This makes me wonder how the reception of the film was in the 1960's

No, this film isn`t funny.
This is masterpiece.

Youre a person unable to make proper comments.

Yes I agree with you, most phrases and concept were not the kind of concepts or phrases a guy like Bruno would make comment about. I think Godard just used Bruno to speak out his own words.
"Photography is truth. and cinema is truth 24 frames a second." this is not Bruno talking, it's Godard.

Yes ; There are moments of dry humor (for me, at least) when he tries to kill the guy and in the ending. So randomly absurd...

Actors are like cows. You have to lead them through a fence.

exactly.. the way he escapes from the terrorists was also pretty funny, it had that same kind of humor

Funny is not the word...but I understand your point. As an art fan I did enjoy his judgement. I would have never said of course "Van Gogh is better" but that is the way I would have felt. He said that like I would say of course, "Jordan is better than Lebron.". You have to love the Euro sensibilities in those moments.

I like the fact the this spy/hitman/terrorist thought about other things. An American hit man flick would have only thought how cute Veronica Dreyer was and if he had any time for random conversation it would have been about her looks. Stuff blowing up and him...not a scratch. This character admitted to being afraid of being tortured and wondered out loud if he was tough enough to handle it.

All of that stuff make this an interesting film for me. I had to do my homework on the war with Algeria to have a better understanding.
