Did you see Jean Arthur? I know Boris Karloff was Captain Hook in that production. I would love to have seen that being a fan of both Karloff and Arthur.

People, ANYBODY who thinks Rigby is better is just trolling. Nobody, but nobody can have so little taste and still exist in this world. At least I HOPE not.

Both Cathy Rigby, and especially Sandy Duncan sucked out loud in this role. Mary Martin is the ONLY Peter Pan.

MARY MARTIN=PETER PAN.

end of story

I think you must be about nine years old. What else would explain all the caps and !!!!!!!!!!!! and the stupid emotion and energy put behind such a trifling distinction. Just enjoy (or not) and shut up already.

reply

If I was nine years old I doubt I would even know who mary martin is.

Cathy Rigby is amazing in this role and her flying sequences are the best I've seen I love her "look" and her boyishness but I don't care for the accent she assumes as it sounds somehow contrived. By comparison, Martin adopts a playful sound which, actually, she's used for other characters too. It's funny and charming. Her singing, however, is on another level. Rigby is excellent but Martin has a lilt to her phrasing, a sweetness of tone and a special ring to her belting that I can't resist...plus, I love her "theatah" diction. Martin is from Texas but, like many actors of her generation, trained to eliminate a regional sound (Now one could say this is contrived) and could flip in and out of a proper sound (She was considered for My Fair Lady). It's a matter of preference.

I agree. But I loved Martin as well.

No Day But Today. Today 4 U. One Song Glory.
How we gonna pay last year's RENT?!

reply

Not to mention, Martin is Just too mature for the role. She makes him more of a childlike adult instead of an actual child. And Cathy Rigby is both funny and tragic as he's written

I love you, Kristen Stewart. :) You are so beautiful and talented. I would love to perform with you.

reply

I like them both, but in my opinion, Mary Martin's a better singer and Cathy Rigby's a better actress.
