Who were the 'Lounge Acts'?

New Years Eve lounge acts, such as the couple on the bar stage, and the couple with the balloons (Live live live). Anyone know who they were?

One of the emcees counting down to midnight was Danny Thomas.

The "Red" character on the xylophone accompanying Dean Martin was a popular recording artist of the day. I forget his name (other than that his first name IS Red).

Yes. I am sure that the person either truly was, or, is supposed to look like or represent, Red Norvo.

That song of Dean's was also heard (Big band version) in "A Bronx Tale", the special musical "Chicago Hope" ep, and a number of other movies.

I believe the guy on the Xylophone is Red Nichols, and the group was called Red Nichols and the Five Pennies

reply

Red Nichols played Cornet, not xylophone.

The lady and man singing were Keely Smith and Louis Prima who were also seen on one of the marquee shots. They were a very popular act for many years, there band included the gifted saxophonist Sam Butera. Prima who was from New Orleans was considered the "white" Louis Armstrong-his main influence.

reply

One of the acts sounded like Louis Prima and Keely Smith.

reply

As I said before, the xylophone player was RED NORVO!

reply

Brad: you are mostly correct, it was Kenneth "Red" Norvo, however, he plays vibraphone-NOT xylophone, big difference. Red was a pioneer in playing vibes in jazz, he and Lionel Hampton were the first two to play them in the 1930s. Red has many recordings, an excellent player. He often would lead the band that accompanied Sinatra. there's a great CD of Fran Live in Australia with Red and his band behind Ol' Blues Eyes Down Under

One of the acts seen on stage were Keely Smith and Louis Prima who are also shown on one of the marquee scenes. Keely and Louis were extremely popular in Las Vegas and on many other stages around the country. They also made many successful recordings, Prima was from New Orleans and played trumpet and sang just like his hero and main influence Louis Armstrong, in fact Prima was considered the "white" Louis Armstrong. After Prima died, Keely continued as a solo act, she's still alive. The Smith-Prima Band included the stand out saxophonist Sam Butera

reply

Norman Brooks and his sister Annie are the ones singing "Live Live Live."

I just discovered Louis, Keely and Sam on YouTube and love them! But I don't recall seeing any of them in this movie (I did see their names on a marquee). Can u tell me where in the movie they were?
I just bought their The Wildest CD and love it!
