Big white dog on North to Alaska?

What kind of dog was that in the movie? My ex-husband had a dog exactly like that and he was so lovable. I feel like I'm watching him on the screen; they're so much alike.

Looks like an Old English Sheepdog mix. If you go to http://www.oldenglishsheepdogclubofamerica.org/, that's the national breed club site. You should be able to find a good breeder there. I've never had one, but I understand that if you can deal with the coat, they're great dogs.

Noooooooo. This http://www.akc.org/breeds/samoyed/index.cfm is a Samoyed. Not even close. The dog on NTA isn't a Nordic breed; the differences are too many to even list here.

By the way, we show our dogs, so I've been to my share of dog shows and have seen (and know the difference between) over a hundred different breeds. I'm not just talking out of my you-know-what.
IF that dog had been a purebred (and it wasn't), the closest it would have come would have been a badly bred, poorly groomed Briard. Check 'em out here. http://www.akc.org/breeds/briard/

Nice delete, DamienWasHere. Please look up the term "mongrel." It applies to any dog of mixed breeds. Including Clancy. Toss in 1/8 of any other breed, and you no longer have a certain breed; you have a mongrel.
When someone asks about a particular breed of dog in a movie, to tell them that it's a particular breed when it's actually a mixed-breed is misleading. If the OP went to a Sammy breeder looking for a dog like Clancy, they'd be in for a big disappointment.
No offense to your grandfather, or to Clancy, but Clancy was NOT a Samoyed. He was a mixed-breed dog. Doesn't make him any less cute or cuddly, just means he was NOT a purebred.
