Yeah, this sort of thing is interesting to me too. It happens both ways though. I believe there are American movies and TV shows out there (examples escape me at the moment) that I'm waiting to be released on region 1 that are out in England on region 2.
Really, at this point, why isn't everything released region zero these days, meaning they play in any country? I assume the answer must be the same as why some DVDs are still released with the several versions of DVD cases that aren't fit for the purpose for which they're intended, i.e. protecting the DVD from damage, instead of in the several designs of cases that actually WORK properly. And I'd bet the answer is money.
I'm waiting for "Twins of Evil", "Godzilla vs. Biollante" later seasons of "Streets of San Francisco" and some other stuff I'm sure. Somehow it almost seems like random chance what countries a movie or show gets released in first. I imagine that there must be different levels of consumer demand for different movies and shows in different countries. I hope this is what explains it anyway.
