Worst Tagline Ever?

"Powerful! Shocking! Raw! Rough! Challenging! See a little girl molested!"

"Your dumb" My dumb what?
Nobody doesn't not like double negatives.

If that was the tagline, it was very inaccurate. Nowhere in the film do we see a little girl molested. In fact, they wouldn't have been allowed to film such a scene in 1959 and certainly would still not be allowed to film it. In any case, according to the script, Olderberry senior didn't actually touch Jean, he only persuaded her to undress for him and dance naked in front of him (something that all happens off screen). I don't think this would have been actual molestation in law. I suppose the actual charge would have been inciting a child to commit an act of indecency. But even that charge would have been a gray area, as nakedness per se isn't necessarily indecent. I suppose it all depends on the motive of the defendant. Are there any lawyers on here who can clear up such a point of law.

Spoiler ahead: We don't see him "molesting" any girl, but at the end he kills, and probably rapes one of the little girls, we don't see him doing it, but it's in the plot. I'm not sure how the law worked back then, but it's not so much the fact that he didn't touch the girl the first time, but that he actually got her to get naked for her own perverted pleasure. The child is innocent, she doesn't know she's been used to sexually please the old creep even if it is just without touching. That should be punishable. If she were old enough ok, but she was a child.

I suspect you meant to say for HIS own perverted pleasure....

Do we know for a fact that that was the tagline?

Or did someone just put it there on IMDb for a joke?

Good point. Usually movies have their taglines printed on the movie posters that are distributed upon the movie's release. I have not found an example of a movie poster for this movie that includes that tagline mentioned by the OP*. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist, but if that were an actual tagline, I'd think you'd be able to find a movie poster that has it clearly printed on it. Instead, you'll find the other listed taglines: A Nightmare Manhunt for a Maniac Prowler! and The Most Challenging Film of the Decade and Six Words That Sound a Fateful Warning! and ...and then he made us play that silly game...

I'd really like someone to produce a link to a movie poster that has the tagline that the OP presented. I find it a little suspect...

*I just noticed that the tagline the OP mentioned has been removed from the IMDb tagline page. Hmm... interesting.

Here's the trailer for the film (didn't see that tagline though...):

Good film, not perfect (some inconsistences or questionable plot scenes), but still very good.

Probably not genuine, as noted. Anyway, if they'd shown the girls dancing they'd have to had shaved Janina Faye's pubes as she was 13 when she played the part. Only joking.
