Was it as deeply dark mysterious as Pontocorvo's "Bowllegged Demon Proslytizer"?

What is the sound an imploding pimp makes?

Eerie and jam-packed with atmosphere, yes. (For years I've been looking for the short story on which the film was based...no luck.) The only thing "Mill of the Stone Women" lacked is the charisma of a Peter Cushing or Christopher Lee to put it over the top. Herbert Boehme and Wolfgang Preiss were good, but neither had quite enough presence for his role, in my opinion.

The bit at the end with the burning corpses traveling along the track, and an eyeball falling out...ugh!

Totally dug the potently brooding gloom-doom atmosphere of this film and that fiery climax was quite an exciting corker. 8 out of 10 from me as well.

Superb atmosphere indeed. It's so, so important for Horror films. If the atmosphere/mood is correct, many other issues become inconsequential.
