Why did Tony steal the money?

Tony married Kit for the money. Why he stealing from his own company? If so what did he do with the money--give it to he co-conspirator Peggy?

Not seen the movie for a while so i might be wrong.

But i don't remember him stealing from his own company.
His company was losing money and on the brink of bankruptcy, so he needed more money to fund it. Killing Kit would have got him a pile of cash that he could use. I'm guessing Peggy was in on it for a cut of the profits too.

I saw it fairly recently. Herbert Marshall, who it is said was an "ex flame" of Kit's aunt Bea (he attended the opera with them), worked at Tony's firm. There were a couple of shady phone calls he was involved in which indicated that it was he who was stealing money from the firm. He was a red herring, in that suspicion (of being the one harrasing Kit) was cast upon his character as a diversion from the 'real' goings on. Other red herring characters were played by Roddy McDowall and John Gavin. And then there's that guy with the scar...

Yes, Tony was embezzling from his own company.

No, there are links to this. It starts with the fatty chap who demands money, talks about being short-changed, continues with David, the secretary, calling in Rex for 'a very urgent message', once he discovered the fraud.
So the logic is there!
