Does anyone know of other movies like "Midnight Lace"? Not just movies that are in the mystery/suspense genre, but movies that have a similar "feel" to them as this (take place in London, where there are foggy nights, quaint neighborhood pubs, anonymous calls made in red phone booths, etc)?

The only other one I can think of is "23 Paces to Baker Street." And then if I'm really stretching things, possibly "Dial M for Murder" and "Frenzy."

It seems like there must be a lot of movies like "Midnight Lace," but I can't think of what they'd be, and I'd love to rent/buy them

I love "Wait Until Dark" with Audrey Hepburn. Doesn't take place in London but it's a great thriller. Audrey is wonderful. Others in the cast include Alan Arkin, Richard Crenna, Efrem Zimbalist,Jr. I believe this was Arkin's first major role.

Two years late, but..!

Two good suspense films starring Donald Sinden can be recommended.

One is 'Eyewitness' also starring Michael Craig. It's set in what looks like a London suburb and also a hospital!

The other is a bit bonkers - called Tiger in the Smoke, and is totally off the wall but set in London and suspenseful.

Two others I thought of:

Victim (Dirk Bogarde) (1961) - mostly London. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0055597/

Lost (1956) - London scenes and also other parts of England. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0048315/

One similar movie, also set in London, but around the turn of the century, "Gaslight" is quite similar in mood, tone, and plot. It takes place mostly within a Victorian-era home, but, IIRC, there are scenes in fog as well. It stars Charles Boyer and Ingrid Bergman, and won 2 Oscars.

Try the 1940 original British version of 'Gaslight' too if you get the chance.
