Title

Why was this movie retitled Black Sunday. The original title Mask of the Devil is a much more accurate title of what the movie was about. What does Sunday have to do about this at all.

Only American distributors James Nicholson and Sam Arkoff knew for certain and they're both deceased. However, the success of this film directly resulted in the same duo re-naming the 1963 film THREE FACES OF FEAR as BLACK SABBATH. In a related story, Ozzy Osborne said when he was trying to come up with a name for his band, the movie BLACK SABBATH was playing in a theater across the street. He liked the title and the movie and decided to call the band Black Sabbath.

The AIP version added the opening narration which begins with: "One day in each century, it is said that Satan walks the among us. That day is called "Black Sunday".

I will not fear. Fear is the mind killer.

I like the title "Black Sunday" myself. It makes the film sound very ominous and spooky which it is so it sets a mood before the movie even begins.
