At one time, Tim Burton wanted to remake this

With Johnny Depp as Dr. Andre Gorobec,Frank Langella as Dr. Thomas Kruvajan, Dwayne Johnson as Igor Javutich, and Helena Bonham Carter (had to throw her in there somewhere) as the the owner of the Tavers (her milkmaid daughter played by Miranda Cosgrove).

As long as he kept the dark comedy out and kept the horrifying, suspense filled atmosphere of the original, I could see it working. I say this because of his adaptation of Dark Shadows. The TV show was very Gothic and atmospheric just like this movie, and Tim Burton ignored all of that and made it completely comedic. I hope he wouldn't do that with this film.
