One of the finest horror films ever made!

Mario Bava was an artist of the visual. He was the only director who could use a zoom lens well and get away with it.

The rumor mill: like Dark Castle, who began doing remakes of William Castle's films THE HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL and THIRTEEN GHOSTS, another film company wants to begin remaking Bava's films -- starting with this one.

Big mistake.

I love Black Sunday and it has become one of my favorite movies of all time. I haven't seen any other Mario Bava films, but after watching Black Sunday I am going to try look for more of his films. This movie was terrific and I hope they don't do a remake.

This movie was surprisingly good and entertaining.

That doesn't come as a shock. There are rumors of culling the back catalog of horror all the way back to the fifties. Some are true, some are false. I know that The Wicker Man has already been greenlighted as has The Changeling. Supposedly Suspiria has been moved up to the front burner.

I hate that these remakes are in the works but there is one tiny benefit in that just like the zombie craze of late, this could pave the way for a gothic horror revival. With the saturation of sloppy splatter horror that has pretty much own the cineplexes for the last three decades (with occasional exeptions like the work of Guillermo Del Toro and M. Night Shyamalan) this would be a welcome respite.

It's a double-edged sword. When remade, it will produce a greater interest in the original. On the other hand, remakes suck 94.7% of the time. And you know if this remake happens, you'll have idiots who are into anything contemporary just for the fact that it's newer than the old version. Or you'll hear the inevitable cries of "Black and white is stupid!!!". I for one hope it is not remade.

I first saw this on the late show when i was 12. It was after midnight, and i was the only one in the house awake. The opening scene had me on the edge. When the next scene in the tomb when the eyes lit up under the mask sent me over the edge. I was scared sh**less, turned off the tv and went to sleep in my brother's room to avoid being alone. I am still having therapy today LOL. THE EXORCIST did not disturb me like several minuts of this film did!

This movie is my all-time favorite horror movie. I loved it from the beginning, even after it gave me nightmares for several nights after seeing it as a little kid. It still affected me when I became a teenager and couldn't watch it to the end one night when it was on television...it felt as if the evil portrayed on the screen would just creep into my room and take over. I had to turn it off! Now, of course, I own the DVD and wait till I'm in the right mood to put it on and scare myself to death.

It's so much fun to scare one's self to death...

Halloween is coming up, and it might be time to watch it again!

It really doesn't matter. The re-make doesn't wipe out the original--it still exists. So why be troubled by it? They'll dumb it down for the rabble ... I don't worry, cuz I won't watch that version, I will re-watch this version instead.

There's some strangeness in yer wording... Why does somebody got to get away with using something well? If he usedly it badly, and got away with it, that would make more sense. Are you seriously saying only Bava could use a zoom lens? I think people here need to hit the brakes sometimes before they post ...
