You are right, the movie is awesome, but the fact of being an old B&W "foreign movie" doesn't makes it precisely a popular film outside of the spanish-speaking countries. Anyway I can assure you that "almost" everybody south of Río Bravo aka Rio Grande have watched this movie at least once in their lifetime.
Let's face it, 90% to 95% of yanks doesn't watch movies in a foreign language. Those who does it, basically just watch recent and popular films such as "Oldboy" or "Amélie".
Finally the fact that the movie hasn't been widely released on DVD in most parts of the world doesn't help too much either.
But you are amongst the lucky ones who have seen it! Feel happy, mate!
