Japanese Soldier

I thought the Japanese soldier looked kind of old for the part. When I looked up
Kenji Takaki, the actor I see he was 67yrs old when this was filmed. The Japanese must have been running out of men by this time of the war.

The Japanese 'National Resistance Program' took men up to 60 years old for conscription, and before that an older man could volunteer for front line fighting if he so desired and was fit enough.

I'm sure you're correct, but Kenji Takaki was the oldest actor I think I've ever seen playing an on the front line, infantry man. I know the producers were keen to have links to the play, but I thought this casting for a film version was a little odd.🐭
