One of the funniest movies I've ever seen...

This movie was sooo good. I bought this 50 horror movie pack for $29.99 and this movie came in it, and I just got to watch this movie. Jack Nicholson was soooooooooooooooooooooo hilarious. He is PERFECT for this part. Everyone needs to see that part, it's sooooooooooooooooooooooooo GREAT!!!

reply

Wow! With all those os, who can resist?

Say, what else came in your horror pack? Anything else good?

to nota jackal, yeah there were actualy quite a few good movies in the pack like Night of the Living dead, Nosferatu, Metropolis, Carnival of souls, the original house on haunted hill, plus a bunch of fairly obscure cheesy movies. You can probobly get it for cheaper for $29 too , i bought mine of the internet for $20 and i recently saw it at walmart for $10. Its a good deal no matter which way you look at it.

Of those 4 you mentioned - Night of the living dead, nosferatu, metropolis and carnival of souls - they're all in the public domain and can be seen for free at www.archive.org or some have been uploaded to video.google.com. But Little shop of horrors isn't in the public domain I don't think, and I'm sure there are some other good ones in that package too.

OMG!!! I JUST GOT THAT FOR BY BIRTHDAY ON OCT 15!!! I also got the 50 Classic Sci Fi pack!!! Santa Claus Conquers the Martians Is th best film ever created!!! It's so funny!!! And I was just about to Watch little Shop of Horrors. I've seen the stage msuical and the musical movie with Rick Moranis but I can't wait for this. I'll go watch it now.!

reply

I've got that pack too. I was excited by the number of historically important films in it. But "Little Shop" is the only one of them I've seen so far from it, and the picture and sound quality seemed iffy at best. I hope that's not the case with all of them.

BTW, i've seen several of these films, but not in this particular edition. For example the first time I saw Night of the Living Dead was on a pretty good transfer. I hope this one's as good.

reply

Yeah, the transfer quality is far from HD, but nothing I wasn't expecting. The only one I've noticed that was particularly bad was with "White Zombie" where a few frames seemed to be missing here and there. A word or two cut from dialogue here and there.

But getting 50 movies for $30 leaves me with little room to complain.

I remember seeing this for the first time on KMTV's "Creature Double Feature" and my mom and I both laughed all the way through it. It's not horror, it's dark comedy and very good dark comedy at that. Love this movie.

-There's a poster in Mushnik's shop that says, "LOTS PLANTS CHEAP". LOL!
-A car almost hits Seymour and a voice screams, "IDIOT!"

Jackie Joseph is sweet and sexy! I wish I had a girlfriend like her.

Funny? Not in the least. In fact it´s not even amusing, but just infinitely, moronically goofy. I never thought I´d utter this dreaded sentence "this is the worst movie I´ve ever seen", but, well, there it went. At least Corman doesn´t seem to cease surprise though - having seen It Conquered The World, I expected A Bucket Of Blood to be in the similar Ed-Wood´ish vein of supremely silly badness, but it turned out to be genuinely funny as well as rather wittily satirical & sort of relevant even. Now, I thought Little Shop was gonna go further down the same path as Bucket, but it only did so in terms of basically recycling it´s plot... and then decorating it with some of the worst acting and dialogue I´ve ever come across. It´s only the second movie after Lady In The Water I´ve awarded a 1/10 rating.

Although there was some pieces of dialogue and character mannerisms which were funny, mostly in Nichoson's brief appearence as a wacky masochist, this film was certainly nothing special. The longer it got the more ridiculous it became with stupid actions and an even more silly finale. Not much seemed well thought out in terms of narrative.

totally agree with that remark,, he was off the charts funny,, love his acting, the plant, everything the store owner, the funny old ladies,, even the flower shop, could watch this over and over.
are you going to bark all day little doggie,, or are you going to bite

reply

i don't know how i got the idea this was a sequel to bucket of blood, and the actor from that has only small part here, but now i know why i always thought he was so recognisable, he was in one of the parts in twilight zone the movie, "bucket of blood" could have been a little favorite of mine if it weren't for the cat part, animal cruelty just means exclude to me, one release of this has got the cover with nicholson on it, i thought he was the main star but it was the old case of putting a now well known name on the cover though they got a small part in the old movie, i saw this years ago on a catcom release but didn't remember, i just got in on elviras horror classics dvd now, this really needed subtitles, sound was bad and way lower than elviras part.

another valentines day alone,
