I'll see that Holy Maloney and raise you a Holy Guacamole

Monroe is the best thing in this movie - I think she saved it. Singing the title theme, doing her other numbers, just being her...and my favorite scene is when she and Yves Montand are walking home and she starts to trot. What a fantastic shot - I put the VHS on one frame at a time so I can see it all. Yeah, it takes about 10 to 15 minutes, but that trotting is so adorable, I like to savor it.

Seems to me like it was more of a way to introduce Yves Montand to moviegoers. Marilyn has more of a supporting role, but it's still pretty good and she looks wonderful. I think Marilyn looks best with a little weight on her!

She looks good a lot of the time, but there are moments where you see the facade cracking--a seriously horrible closeup in the restaurant (after she puts her coat on and he "confesses" to her) and a general tired look. Her weight flucuates wildly. In one scene, she's looking curvy but neat in a blue leotard, she walks out of the room with Montand, turns a corner and...she's at least ten pounds heavier, in the midst of the same conversation!

There are lots of wonderful MM moments, but this film was obviously a nightmare. Look at the condition of her hair! Nobody thought to throw a wig on her, or some olive oil or mayo? And her hair changes style constantly, within the same scene; nobody was caring about continuity-- just get the damn thing done.

I've loved Marilyn since as far back as I can remember but if you look at her profile and I'm sure she did too, you see her looks were just on the edge of fading. Don't get me wrong, she was beautiful but the 20 something Marilyn was just starting to go and with her fragile self image I believe she saw it too. I'm not saying by any means she was any less beautiful. I'm middle aged, maybe thats why I see it. She was just on the edge of losing what she loved. That youthful sexy look. We all would have loved her into her 70's and beyond but I think she saw it in this picture. She was perfect in every way but she couldn't face losing what was her. Her looks. It's sad to even think that way but I believe this was what led to what happened 3 years later.

I do not think her looks were fading. In SGTG, 2 years later she was beautiful as ever. Maybe this film didn't favour her with that make up or she wasn't very well psychologically... She is gorgeous in the Daddy number.

Marilyn and Montand made the perfect couple in this movie. She just seems to make so much chemistry with all her male co-stars when they're acting together.
I love the scenes between her and Montand (who was cute btw )!

This movie sounds good! I just bought it! Im about to watch it! Marilyn IS the best and I seen the preview it looks sensational! I bet the dance performances are great! Glad I bought it!!

This film is "special" to me because it contains the last bit of comedy that she ever did. The bit near the end of the film where she skids her way out of Clement/Yves's office is the last bit of slapstick she ever did in a film.

What a piece of trash this film is!. M.M. is OK but Frankie Vaughan anyone ??? !!!! OMG!! the producers must have searched the world for the cheapest person available to play this part. The whole thing is a mess from start to finish and there is something quite sad in the fact that this was one of Monroe's final films. Yves Montand was also dire and badly miscast. I'm not surprised that Rock Hudson, Gregory Peck, Yul Bryner et al - avoided this turkey like the plague. A waste of everbody's time and talent.

I thought she looked magnificent. I read that many of the critics made fun of her because her weight was fluctuating so dramatically, but I didn't see it at all. As far as her acting goes, she is quite good in this film. She seemed softer and more vulnerable; a performance perhaps even better than the one she gave in Some Like It Hot. She proved that she could work great scripts, if given the opportunity. She was a perfectionist and any shortcomings in her performance could be attributed to the script, in my opinion.

Pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space 'cos its bugger all down here on Earth.

Watching this movie agains reminds me how beautiful and talented Marilyn Monroe was. This is a great underated movie and should get more airtime on of my favourites.

Marilyn Monroe was the biggest star in Hollywood during this filming and had not made a film at her home studio 20th in 4 years with The Prince and the Showgirl at Warner Bros and Some Like It Hot at United Artists. 20th demanded a MM film and after being paid off on a 'play or pay' deal at 20th for 'The Blue Angel' and 'Wild River' the shrewd MM consented to this George Cukor film. Greg Peck was initially cast but left the film before shooting because Peck realized that on any film that was to star MM, Marilyn was the focal point. James Stewart and Charlton Heston also declined. Rock Hudson was interested but was under contract to Universal which demanded a MM film at Universal for the price of a Hudson loanout. To his utter regret, it was Arthur Miller who suggested Montand. MM had a torrid affair with Yves Montad thinking Montand would divorce Simone Signore and marry Her once she divorced Arthur Miller. Also this film got caught up in an actors strike that affected all of Hollywood and this film like all the others filming at the time shut down. However MM somehow got blamed by 20th for the overages on Lets Make Love.

I saw this film on Fox Movie Channel and the film has its charm and MM is as always unique and wonderful.
