color or black and white??

It says on this movie's IMDb page that it is on color, but I just bought it on DVD, and it's in black and white. Was I ripped off?

reply

ive only ever seen it in B+W.

reply

Same here. Does a color version exist or is it just a mistake?

reply

It was shot in color, and a color DVD was released in 2005 and is still available. Television prints are in black and white. At the time, most homes had black and white televisions. Films were sold to TV in the form of 16mm prints. It did not make economic sense to strike 16mm color prints when so few people would actually watch it in color. So TV prints are in 16mm black and white.

As far as the DVD goes, you won't find the color version if you do a search by the title. The color version is only available on a 3-movie set called "The Roger Corman Puerto Rico Trilogy." Don't throw your B&W copies away, though. That is the television version, which has about 7 1/2 minutes of extra footage shot three years later.

Whats in those 7 1/2 minutes? Anything important story wise?

FYI this version on YT starts in b/w and ends in color. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYQQwjB_qt0&index=21&list=WL

It's entirely possible that I am missing the point of your message.

Just watching it right now on "Sci Fi TV Online." Although the colors aren't reproduced well, it's clearly in color.

I watched it in B/W, which suits it perfectly fine for its 'end of the world theme'. This movie really doesn't need color.

There's a version of it on Youtube right now. It starts out in black and white or rather sort of sepia toned. Then when the three of them resurface after she shoots him with the harpoon gun the film changes to color.

Kind of an apocalyptic version of Wizard of OZ. The colors are still a bit off. Here's the link.

It is in Public Domain and the version I downloaded from Jimbo Berkey's site is Color, but very washed out and as others stated... very B&W or Sepia until after they come up from the fateful swim.

What Is in them 7.5 Minutes added to some versions?
