Steve Reeves' Thief Of Bagdad Soundtrack available now on CD!

Although one of Steve Reeves' greatest film hits, 1961's The Thief of Baghdad is still not available on DVD, the film's marvelous atmospheric and lovely score composed by Italian film composer, Carlo Rusticelli is now officially available on CD thru Digitmovies as part of "The Italian Peplum Original Soundtracks Anthology Collection" This CD contains the complete score for this classic Reeves film with 41 tracks and 68 minutes of music digitally remastered with an eight page color booklet with text about the film and the score as well as many color photos of the movie and posters for the film. This CD soundtrack is much superior to the 1987 LP release of the score released by CAM/Phoenix that only contained half of this score. Digitmovies, which has also released a great 2 CD compilation of the original scores by Enzo Maseti for the two HERCULES films(HERCULES & HERCULES UNCHAINED) made by Steve Reeves, has only made 500 CD copies of this THIEF OF BAGHDAD score and it's available for $17.95 at Screen Archives Entertainment thru their website, www.screenarchives.com.

Great news! (I read your other post about this too.) I've ordered many things from SAE.

But -- is this the soundtrack -- the actual music recorded for and heard in the movie -- or only the score, which means it's a later recording of the music written for the film? I always prefer the original to some later reworked version of that original.

Actually, the CD for THIEF OF BAGHDAD has both the original music composed by Carlo Rusticelli that appears in the film as well as the score for the film that appeared in the 1987 vinyl LP Phoenix release. Digitmovies used all the tracks for the LP plus the original master tape recordings of Rusticelli's music that was recorded for the film to have a complete version of the film's music on 41 tracks lasting 68 minutes,But Digitmovies only issued 500 copies of this great soundtrack, so I sincerely suggest that you order it as soon as possible from SAE before it's soon out of print.

Got it. Thanks!

I'm sure I will, and will let you know after I get it. See you in a few weeks.

Hi alanbobet --

Well, I ordered and today received the Thief CD. I haven't had a chance to listen to every track yet -- I jumped around to hear many of my favorite passages instead! -- but I heard more than enough to know that this is one terrific CD. The sound quality is excellent, and it was great to hear this lively and amusing score on its own, set apart from the film itself. Now if we can only get a good, widescreen DVD of the movie.

Anyway, I have to thank you for alerting us to this unique CD. I have long loved the music score from this film -- it may be its single best element -- but never thought I'd ever own it. I'm a customer of SAE but had no plans to buy anything just now until I saw your posts. I added a few other titles to my order, but even then never came across any announcement about the Il ladro di Bagdad CD, so I'm sure that, but for your thoughtfulness in letting the rest of us in on the news, I'd never have even known this disc existed and would probably have missed it entirely.

So, thanks again! Great music to play in the car, too.

Thank you too, hobnob53. I'm so very glad that you finally got the THIEF OF BAGHDAD CD soundtrack by Carlo Rustichelli and that you fully enjoyed listening to the CD as I have! You're completely right that this is certainly one film score that one can listen to separately from the film itself and still enjoy it. I never thought that a CD version this well made and complete of this particular film would be available to us Steve Reeves fans in our lifetime, but thanks to Life's rare miracles, it has happened to our benefit! I am so glad to be of service to you regarding notifying you about this CD and I hope that you'll do the same & recommend it and pass the word around to all the Steve Reeves or "sword and sandal" fans that you know who might be interested in buying this CD for their collection.
