DVD

This film deserves a decent DVD release. Nothing special, but something competent. Definately a childhood favorite.

I agree. I saw this movie on television when I was very young, and I was entranced by it. I would love to see it again someday

Not only was this version overlooked by film snobs, it actually was a fantastic
leap for it's day, a wonderful adventure film with pretty clever inexpensive special effects that gave it a great feel, despite Steve Reeves' limited acting abilities. I loved it too.

I wonder if anyone in starved for scripts Hollywood has thought of remaking this version, the Steve Reeves version, with better performances and state of the art effects.

I'm one of those guys who loved Pirates of the Carribean-1 and hated PC-2. The first caught the fun spirit of th Disney ride, the second a retarded fall into fish-face actors in search of a rational plot. It led 2007 box IMHO, off the reputation of the first and the dearth of competition from the worst set of summer popcorn films ever released.

To me, a new Thief of Bagdad could catch the fun spirit of Pirates-1. But maybe that title is a problem.......

I really agree, i have been wanting to see this film again for years after seeing it on tv when i was a child (i only recently found out what is was called the only bit i really remembered were the trees coming to life when they were on the quest( this really scared me back then)). I recently bought a dvd(vhs rip) off ebay, and dispite the poor quality and pan & scan i still really enjoyed it. With the amount of old tat they do release we can only hope they do get round to this fondly remembered but it seems forgotten classic

I wish Netflix had this or that I could find it for sale anywhere, which I can't. I want it in DVD.

Since it was an MGM release, Warner Archives I think will eventually release it on DVD, along with some other overdue fantasy features such as THE WONDERS OF ALADDIN with Donald O'Connor and George Pal's THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM.

A couple years back I got a copy from Italy. Well, at least I have the film in my collection, even if it isn't widescreen and done in the original Italian.
