She was clearly breathing

Spoilers:

After those men killed the girl and we saw the young boy throwing dirt on her dead body, we could clearly see her chest move up and down in a breathing motion.
This reminded my of a scene in The Searchers where a dead indian is clearly still breathing.
Why don't otherwise brilliant directors note such a thing and shoot the scene again telling the actor or actress to hold their breath?

reply

Perhaps they left her for dead, she slowly died and the child saw her breathing as she did so and that's what made him run off (thinking she was coming back to life or some such).

Probably not, but that's how I rationalised it at the time and the excuse worked for me.

reply

Nah, I'm pretty sure it's just a goof.

reply

The little boy heard Karin take a breath before he threw the dirt on her (after he vomited). It was intentional that she was still alive.

reply

So the boy decided to throw dirt on her even though she was still alive?
I'm not sure I buy it.

In other news: I just watched Duck, You Sucker (1971) and there's a scene in a cave where the camera pans over many dead bodies several of which are still breathing.

reply

Yes, I watched the DVD commentary... It was to "cover up his brothers sin" (a cleansing). This was a young child and he was traumatized.
