Monster on the cutting room floor?

I had read somewhere that there was suppose to be a menacing monster starring in this cheap flick. Then somewhere down the line it was edited out because of "reel" shoddy results. Only because of my interest in this type of genre, I was just wondering if anyone knew more of this smart or not so smart decision!

There's the very brief shot (blink and you miss it) of the lizard on the "cavern floor" which looks like stock footage, but other than that, don't know. (Some people even say they've not seen that scene.) It certainly couldn't have been as shoddy as the old Popeye character somehow "shipwrecked" way beneath the sea. Hahaha.

Hi,one can never be too rich or have too many friends. When the cave is collapsing, was it my imagination or did the wall of lava have a caveman at the bottom of the frame? Looked like a leftover from one million,b.c. (1940) I just wondered.

Perhaps you've seen this by now, but if not and for anyone else interested:

It has a feature on the movie and lots of behind the scenes stuff including some anecdotes on the monster AND a rendering based on the descriptions. Hilarious stuff.

Why the football helmet on Pop Eye or should I say Poop Eye? It would fit in real gud with silent Mysterious Island crap.

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.
