AHHH That music.

Much of the music in this film was also used in Teenagers from Outer Space, Night of the Living Dead and the cartoon Space Angel. I'd like to know who wrote this and what was the first movie to use this music. The music credits in the movies don't necessarily help, because there are other music sources in these movies. Seems as if it could be Josef Zimanich, William Loose, Fred Steiner or Paul Horn.

It sounds like the same stuff that was on the soundtrack of "Midnight Cowboy". I only remember it being called "Science Fiction" on the record. Maybe that recording will give you a clue.

The lost cartoon serial "The Space Explorers" may have used the same tracks or something that sounded like this.

I always liked this music, too.

Just watched IPW the other day and was thinking "where have I heard that music before?", then I watched The War of the Gargantuas (the U.S. version) the next day and noticed that the same music is also used extensively in that movie as well! Akira Ifukube is credited with "original music" on the U.S. print, but if you compare it with the original Japanese dub you will see that most (if not all) of Ifukube's score was dumped in favor of the stock cues you mention. Just add WotG to the list. I'll have to re-view NotLD and Teenagers from Outer Space now.

The song can make the movie. Examples would include Third Man Theme, Unchained Melody ( from Unchained ), Rock Around the Clock from Blackboard Jungle and Lisbon Antigua. There are many others, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, etc. King Kong had great music. Most '50s sci-fi does not have great music, unfortunately. I think The Blob with Steve McQueen had good music if I remember correctly.

I noticed the music in this movie is also used in the film Space Master X7.

This music has been used in horror sounds/Halloween cassette tapes and DVDs. I have a cassette and DVD of it with added spooky sounds. I knew it sounded like 1950's B movie music (nothing wrong with that) and I was right. I saw Space Master and thought, "Hey...!" I don't recall it from 1968's [i]Night of the Living Dead and I've seen that film many times.

I couldn't remember where your question about the music began. Anyway, this might be what we'd been looking for:
