No kiss?

I know the nudie cuties were supposed to be "innocent" and avoid any hint of sexuality, but when Dorothy said to Steve "I'll wait for you forever" and Steve headed off to turn himself in, couldn't they have at least kissed? Even just a little tiny peck on the lips would have made the end of the film so much more satisfying. Even a hug would have been nice.
