A very good movie with a very good cast.

Murphy is very good as an honest rancher who is mistaken for an outlaw. Steven McNally is outstanding as the corrupt marshal. Not to be missed.

Marshal has only one L, not two LL's.

POSSIBLE SPOILER SO PLEASE READ NO MORE IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THIS MOVIE!

Bob Steele plays a minor character who is a member of the town posse. Mr. Steele was a big grade B western star from the early 30s to mid 40s. Later in his career he played minor supporting roles and did a good job in the movies and television in mostly westerns. Thanks for a great career Mr. Steele. In this move he is the last person seen in the parting shot.

No need to buy this film if you have netflix it is available there streaming. That's how i watched it.

An average film to be honest but average westerns are worth watching to me since i love the genre so much.

I like who the bad guy is in this without giving anything away. I thought that was a nice spin on things and i also like that Audie and the girl never made out. It's always predictable for the star to get the girl but we don't know that for sure.

Always interesting how they adjust scenes to accommodate for Murphy's diminutive height. lol..

Overall average script, average acting and average photography. Comparable to most westerns of the era but not up to the level of the Stewart-Mann films or Scott-Boetticher films. Those are special.

I hadn't seen this film in years, and you are right about Bob Steele who kept his career going by becoming a character actor. I thought he was perfectly cast as Curly in Of Mice and Men where he makes the mistake of trying to beat up Lon Chaney Jr.

Of course, Allan "Rocky" Lane is prominently cast. Two of his Republic serials were restored recently by the Serial Squadron--King of The Mounties and Daredevils of The West. Most of KOTM has subtitles because so much of the dialogue track was destroyed while DOTW employs voicc doubles.

One very familiar face who is not credited on IMDB is Kermit Maynard who turns up in the bar at the end of the movie. He can also be seen driving a wagon during the mudfight in North to Alaska.
