Eh?

I don't understand this film. Why was Taplow paid to have his hand amputated? I just don't get it!

I've just watched the film and thought the same thing! In fact, I have absolutely no idea what the film was about! Was the doctor going to graft the hand onto one of the handless vets? Why did he ampuate the hand in the first place? Who were the henchmen, and what was their game? Where did the avenging brother come from? How did he know to make his way to the remote barn? Why was WWII still going on in 1946? So many questions, so few answers.

Oh good, I thought possibly I was being stupid for not getting it, it really is a mess, but at just an hour it passes the time.

It's a pleasant vintage thriller, but it doesn't reflect its billing as a killer stalking London cutting off hands. Indeed, the hand element is the most mystifying part of it.
