DVD release date: October 5, 2010

Sony Pictures apparently plans to finally release "Hand in Hand" on DVD this October.

It can be preordered through the Sony Pictures website:

(which links you to Amazon.com)

The DVD is now out and unfortunately does not appear to be selling particularly well given it's sales ranking on Amazon.com - hopefully some of the posters on this board will consider buying it as a thank you to Sony for making it available.

I just ordered my copy from amazon.

I did too, even though I have a decent copy from a bootleg a number of years ago. I don't mind buying official titles once they are released. Netflix doesn't have this available yet, but they are cheap enough on Amazon, used about 6 dollars.

I just happened to find this at my local ShopRite last night, and I watched it today.

I remember seeing this several times when my church rented the 16mm film (and, yes, showed it on a screen!!) back in the 60's, and it has always stayed with me. I was delightfully surprised at how well it stands up. It wasn't in the least bit maudlin, as I was afraid it might be. What impressed me was that the prejudice wasn't expressed overtly. It was the little things, like Michael's mother saying that one wouldn't know Rachel was Jewish.

There was so much I'd forgotten about this film, and it was so good to revisit the little touches, like the lighting of the sabbath candles. Fifty years ago, I didn't know Dame Sybil Thorndike or Finlay Currie or Stratford Johns (who did a story on 'Doctor Who' twenty years later!), but it was nice to see such prominent names associated with this modest, endearing, and powerful little tale.
