Claudius voiced by Ricardo Matalban

Claudius voiced by Ricardo Matalban...

Just wanted to add this little item. Many of you might have recognized his voice. Perhaps this where Ricardo got all of his great lines ;-) to use in the Star Trek Feature "The Rath of Kahn?" Heheheh...

That exact same thing occured to me as I watched this, I was not surprised. I'm surprised they never riffed on that.

reply

Actually, they did.
At some point, Claudius rambles on about something and Servo says, "... with rich Corinthian leather!" It's a reference to some furniture commercials that Montalban did back in the day. I don't quite know what 'rich corinthian leather' is, but it's apparently a big selling point.

***It's the theme from Hamlet's shoooooow! It's the Hamlet Show THEEEEEEME!***

That reference is actually from some commercials Montalban did in the 1970s (during his Fantasy Island heyday) for a luxury car called the Chrysler Cordoba. The "rich Corinthian leather" was the upholstery on the seats.

Cor-do-BA! By Chrys-ler!

"De plane, boss, de plane!"
"Who let you off the island? Be quiet, while I push your head under the surf for upstaging me again."

Thanks, Pheutakyl - I remember those commercials now. Lol! I was watching the MST 3K version on You Tube and thought I heard Claudius' voice before - so I decided to search for the voice-overs in IMDB!
