Wonderful Herrmann score.....
Regardless of whether you think the film is dated and silly, I think
Herrmann's score was a marvelous achievment....practically his "Nutcracker
Suite", with delightful themes for almost every character and event.

Re: The Nutcracker
Funny, I was just thinking the same thing. To me, it's Herrmann's gift to the child in all of us.

Bernard Herrmann always kicked major original scoring ass!

Totally loved the Herrmann score but I didn't find the film "silly" and certainly not "dated" in fact while watching it I marveled at how they did not try to put a 1960's sensibility into the story and kept it "classic" and traditional unlike most post-1990 films on legendary stories. Those are the ones with their "modern" rewrites, latterday "knowing" sarcasm, and overall revisionism that will surely be dated to later generations.
shareI liked the music. I didn't recognise it as Hermann. The score doesn't seem to have any of his usual trademarks. But it is expertly done for the film.

Hermann was a brilliant composer, famous for his music for Harryhausen films as well as Hitchcock films. Something that I noticed right away in this one is the "small, delicate" music associated with the Lilliputians and the "big, massive, grave" sound associated with the Brobdingnabians.
shareI have it on right now, and it really is wonderful music. Highly original, thematic and original.
