Jean Simmons steals all her scenes.

The Grass Is Greener isn't too bad.

Early on, in that long scene where Robert Mitchum and Deborah Kerr first meet, I found some of the dialogue rather tiresome, with a lot of horrible clichéd comments about the differences between Yanks and Brits. Very little of that was the least bit clever. (Although Mitchum and Kerr do a great job making that scene barely tolerable.)

But once Jean Simmons showed up, I really fell in love with this movie. I've liked her in a few movies (especially the amazing Angel Face), but this is the first time I've really seen her range as an actress, especially as a comic actress. I had no idea she was this good!

I want to see a movie focused on the Hattie character!

Sellers, the butler, was great as well.

And the duel. Yeah, I admit, the duel scene was great! There should be more duels in contemporary films.

So The Grass Is Greener isn't a total loss. If you can struggle through the scene where Mitchum and Kerr first meet, then the rest is fairly entertaining with several great moments.

Jean Simmons should have been charged for grand theft for all the scenes she stole!

Janet! Donkeys!
