Leaving the Ship
When Halsey was getting ready to leave the ship, he changed into civilian clothes, and made some reference to following tradition. What was the tradition? Why could he not wear his uniform off the ship?
The event presented represents his retirement as a Flag Officer. He does not leave his post as an Naval Officer but as a civilian.
