Juliet Prowse -- yummy!

Was Juliet Prowse gorgeous, or what? She sizzled in her two dance numbers in this picture. God, those legs! Elvis, with his colorful Southern way of expressing himself, described her as having "a body that could make a bishop stamp his foot through a stained-glass window."

Just me, or did she looks exactly like a redheaded Leslie Caron?

Personally, I think I have too much bloom. Maybe that's the trouble with me.

reply

There's certainly a similarity, although I always found Juliet more appealing. I just have a thing for tall women.

All the universe . . . or nothingness. Which shall it be, Passworthy? Which shall it be?

reply

No, it's not just you. I watched it just now, and when she came on I thought she was Leslie Caron.

reply

Except that there's a big difference in height between the two: Leslie Caron was 5'1" while Juliet Prowse was 5'11" (Leslie's still alive while Juliet passed away in 1996).

reply

Never knew Leslie is that short, nor did I know Juliet was that tall.

reply

Yeah, nice 'n' petite

Well said. My favorite Elvis films were the ones where he was matched with a musical leading lady who stood her own ground, so to speak. Prowse was oustanding- steam heat indeed!! Her intoduction in the film is my favorite moment, where the spinning cardboard cutout turns into the lady herself- in that awesome shredded white dress she's almost wearing.

And while someone else mentioned a similarity to Leslie Caron, I couldn't help but think if this film had been done 10 years earlier, Lili might've been an ideal role for Cyd Charisse- also long, gorgeous legs, beautiful, glacial exterior. I wish dancers were featured more in films nowadays.

That, and the moment in Juliet's routine when she reclines seductively on top of the piano and flexes those mile-long legs.

The role of Lili might also have been a good vehicle for the very sexy Barrie Chase, who had dramatic talent and a flair for comedy in addition to being a superb dancer.

I thought she danced better in Can Can, but was ideal foil for Elvis here and one of a few leading leadies who had his measure...

NOW TARZAN MAKE WAR!

reply

She had his measure?

So, how long was it?

There's a scene where she's sitting next to Elvis in a sparkly dress slashed up both sides nearly waist-high. The sight of Juliet's hourglass hips and long, beautiful legs drove me wild!

"a body that could make a bishop stamp his foot through a stained-glass window" is a quote from Raymond Chandler whom I'm sure Elvis never read.

reply

He read tons of books but mostly they were spiritual, new age etc. so he may have not read Chandler.

Therefore, Juliet should have stayed away from Catholic churches and rectories, huh?

reply

Prowse dancing was good.

Its that man again!!

reply

Her two sizzling dance routines with legs from here to Frankfurt are worth the price of admission!

reply

Lol, the cardinal or pope wouldn't like that! But holy men are only human too! Elvis had a unique way of saying things. He and Juliet dated in real life.
